Sarah Palin: An Inspiration

I'm crazy about her. Her speech was filled with hope that sounded real. And based on experience. Her humour abounded, her relaxed nature was comforting; I felt as if she was talking to me in my own home.

You gotta love a woman whose life is as imperfect as anyone else's, and she doesn't try to hide it. Another mom with a 17 year old giving her troubles? Another mom with a special needs child? A hockey mom who only differs from a pit bull in lipstick? A beautiful, eloquent woman who married her High School sweetheart, is raising a family of five, sending her son to Iraq, and soon to be a grandmother sounds like just the person we need; not to mention her experience as governor in Alaska and tendency not to speak bullshit.

She's decided my vote quite firmly after the best line of all: she'll lead with a servant's heart. I believe it because I've never had a politician speak to me so honestly.

Go, Sarah! She is an amazingly strong woman.

Did you know she brought up the subject of banning books when she was mayor?

I couldn't agree more! She's a breath of fresh air.

After looking at all the positive press coverage, it reminds me of the reception JFK and Jackie got in the sixties. Some people make it look so easy to be charming, elegant, witty, and confident. The difference here is that I think she has the knowledge and experience to back it up.

I haven't been a big fan of women in leadership roles; certainly, for example, NOT Hillary. But, Sarah brings a certain freshness, a new attitude, that I find quite ennervating.

And no, Verbatim, I didn't know she brought up book banning; do you mean she thought government should never entertain the idea? ;)

Bellezza, you know I love you. But we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one!! I don't have enough time to go into my laundry list of complaints about Palin.

But we can still be friends, right?? :)

I am even more proud to be a woman with a role model who shows such grace, strength, beauty, confidence, humor, love of family and country and experience.
Her much anticipated speech was delivered flawlessly. No preaching, no talking down to anyone, but delivered with respect and understanding of everyone listening in awe.
I was very disappointed in the media coverage. The Democrats better leave her family alone or else they will be attacking every woman in America and I will hate to think of the consequences.
She definitely will get my vote come November.

Stephanie, always! Lots of people in the lounge disagreed with me, too. It got very quiet when I said how much I liked her speech. Most teachers appear to be Democrats.

Anonymous, I am always disappointed with the media. To me, they constantly seem to be either placing the emphasis in the wrong place or being far too biased/opinionated. All I want is the facts. I'm coming to check out your blog; thanks for visiting mine.

So you didn't find her speech vicious? I thoght that she went on the attack a bit but vicious? Did not get that at all. She actually delivered the best speech that I heard in either campaign although Al Gore - and it pains and astonishes me to say it - delivered a good one last week himself. (I could barely watch him when he was running, his delivery drove me wild. I hate being lectured at).

I just want to answer your comment on my book blog, Intergalactic Bookworm. It is really easy to read on the computer, if you do not get a stiff neck or legs easily. Even better on a laptop wher you can get comfortable in a chair. Judy

Hey, verbatim, I'll believe the crap about Governor Palin wanting to ban books when you explain how she wanted to ban several books on the supposed list that hadn't even been published yet. That's truly a neat trick. She, in 1996 supposedly wanted to ban the Harry Potter books - which didn't start being published until 1998.

Governor Palin is an amazing women. The rabid attacks against her have amazed me. All of a sudden it's evil for a woman to want to run for higher office. John Roberts, a hack from CNN actually asked, on air, if the Governor wouldn't be neglecting her child by running. When have they ever asked such a question of a man, any man? I find it insulting at the very least.

The book banning thing is just the latest smear attempt that is destined to fail.

Carrie K, I did not think she was vicious at all; au contraire, I thought she was clear and direct, firm but compassionate where it is needed. I never watched Al Gore; he seemed to drive me crazy, unfortunately.

Intergalactic Bookworm, I was afraid it would be the font/screen rather than page that would be the most annoying. My back is holding up better than my eyes lately.

CJ, I LOVE how informed you always are!!! Thanks for setting the record straight. Your comment is great!

I'm going to agree to disagree on this one, dear friend.

As far as the book banning thing... the list was falsely represented by a commenter on Librarian.net's post. However, the is worth reading.

Les, I know that you prefer Obama (I think I saw his sign on your blog?). I am not well versed in politics, distrusting the whole thing almost implicitly; even more do I want to keep my friendships intact. I just am leery of Obama's lack of experience. I wish I knew one thing he'd done as our Illinois Senator besides run for President. Oops, I can see I'm starting on dangerous ground...

I do LOVE your new picture: on water, and woods, and kayaking, and books we agree completely.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. I thought Palin's speech was excellent. And she has DONE things, unlike Obama.

Bellezza said...

Booklogged, my NEA (National Education Association) magazine came with a cover picture of Obama. They, of course, endorse him and want teachers to vote for him.

Never. I'm scared to death of what he'd do to education...which is in enough trouble as it is right now; last week Chicago public school students were knocking on the doors of New Trier schools (a wealthy district, due to wealthy homes and enormous taxes) as if it's their right to attend there also.

"There's no such thing as a free lunch", and I want to keep it that way. We get what we earn, in my opinion, not what we feel we should be given.

And that's really all that matters, as far as I'm concerned. :)

Count me in with Palin....what a breath of fresh air.

Bellezza said...

Les, me too! Your friendship is more important than any political preference.

EHT, I'm so glad~I was wondering how you might feel with our teacher's union pushing Barack.

I try to stay as current as possible. Have you seen the latest Gallup polls? McCain/Palin are up by a decent margin. The convention gave them one huge bounce. All we can do now is hope it lasts.

As for the book banning thing - in the interest of full disclosure, Governor Palin did ask the librarian how she would feel about removing 'objectional' books but never supplied a list and never asked that any book be removed.

I'm hoping with all my heart. I've heard people suggest that the Democrats might try to bring Hillary in; they're frustrated that the Republicans have Sarah. It's going to be an interesting race.

She loves babies... guns... and Jesus. A woman after my own heart. :o)

Like you, I felt she was talking right to me. When I heard her speech, I wanted to jump on that stage, give her a hug and tell her, "YOU GO GIRL!"

With that said, I'll spare you and those that visit your blog, my views on women in leadership roles. But even so, my vote is for McCain & Palin.

Bellezza said...

Lady G~, I have trouble with women in leadership roles as well. I keep hearing Paul in the back of my mind saying women should be quiet (in church), and I know how emotional we can be while men remain rational. In general. Even so, I'm for Palin on this one.
