Sunday Salon: Halloween edition

My dear friend invited me over for a pre-Halloween celebration on Friday night. There were so many delicious treats that I had no room left for dinner. We watched It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, both of us so well-versed in its lines that we said them along with the characters. She brings a joy to autumn that has only embellished my own.

My mother said she would ask each trick or treater if they would prefer a treat or a leaf. She is so wonderful in her originality, and she has a whole different look on candy than I have ever had. So, I prepared her a bag of sweets, and a bouquet of leaves, so that she can enjoy them both.

I spent the evening listening to an Agatha Christie novel which I have never read. Halloween Party is a Hercule Poirot mystery, published in 1969, where an annoying thirteen year old girl is drowned while bobbing for apples. I still need to find out who was more annoyed with her than I.

Soon we will say farewell to the ginkgo leaves outside the window of my reading nest, and embrace the warmth of thankfulness. But, I’m not in a hurry to rush through the seasons. As I saw on a sign this week, “Walmart wants me to put up my Christmas tree, while eating a turkey leg and wearing my Halloween costume.”

Nope! We are going to savor each day, and not rush through our lives, right?

  1. It has been a few years since I read Halloween Party, but I remember liking it and thinking it had an unusual ending (for a Poirot novel).

I love the gingko tree outside your window.
